Primary engagement // fixed scope

Make the system legible.

The product is in stock, but a customer still has to call for a usable quote. Or completed site work cannot be claimed because the evidence has not reached the office. We trace where the information stops and what needs to change.

The repair begins at the boundary

Bring the object causing the argument.

Select the artifact closest to the failure. It usually tells us where to begin.

Likely boundary: ERP or project ledger → commercial decision. Bring one export and one example of the public or operational result.

This is for organisations with multiple owners, large information volumes, expensive change programmes or a website that has become an unmanaged system of exceptions — or a project too technically uncertain to price, own or commit delivery capacity to safely.

How we work with your team — evidence, scope and ownership →

Establish the fit before the fee.

The brief may show where delivery has become difficult without establishing its cause, so the first conversation is about the decision you need to make, the people involved and whether my experience fits the responsibility.

You need that judgment before committing.

Send the project context or reply to the email that brought you here. We agree the scope, fee and access before any paid investigation starts. The investigation begins once that agreement is in place.

If a diagnostic fits, it gives the unresolved work an agreed boundary before implementation is priced.

What you receive

Estate map

Information, systems, owners, dependencies and publishing pathways.

Failure analysis

Structural, semantic, technical and governance constraints behind the visible symptom.

Priority order

What to repair first, what can wait, and where investment would compound risk.

Intervention map

A clear route into design, build, repair, governance or ongoing operation.

The shape

01 / Briefing. Thirty minutes to establish the operating problem.
02 / Evidence review. We inspect the relevant estate, workflow, content, data or technical record.
03 / Readout. You receive the map and decide whether to proceed.

Fixed scope. Fixed fee. Operator-led. The diagnosis remains yours whether or not SCFC leads the intervention.

Scope, timing and fee

We agree one workflow or recurring problem to investigate. The fixed fee, required records or access, and delivery dates are confirmed after the briefing, before paid work begins. Allow generally five working days once the agreed access and records are available. Any implementation is scoped separately.

Good fit / bad fit

Good fit: complex websites, catalogues, publishing estates, migrations, search and acquisition systems.

Not a fit: cosmetic redesigns, generic SEO retainers, brochure sites or projects where the problem is already fully understood.

Arrived from an email about this problem? Reply to that email with what is happening in your team. We can pick up the conversation there; you do not need to write a new brief.
